MCU’s “Secret Invasion” Review: Plot, Cast, Trailer, Release Date

Movies

Marvel Studios’ most mature series to date, Secret Invasion, targets an older audience than its predecessors by creating a fast-paced, action-packed spy thriller.

It might be the most popular MCU series among those who are sick of superheroes but like international action spy dramas.

However, it also raises some unsettling real-world implications that, if handled improperly, may result in a series with a very unsettling message.

While there has been a lot of discussion concerning Marvel’s overexposure. The longest interval between Marvel Disney+ episodes since WandaVision started the trend in 2021, however, was eight months between Secret Invasion and the previous MCU series, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

Given that it has been a while since viewers could tune in to an MCU adventure week after week, this definitely makes Secret Invasion feel more like an event.

The Marvels‘ move from July to November 2023 makes Secret Invasion the major MCU summer event, as it will take place from the end of June to July.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may have started the summer movie season. It has a lot resting on it, and for the most part, the series delivers.

The Plot and Cast

The main character of Secret Invasion is Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who has been called to Earth by Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), a former member of S.H.I.E.L.D., and former Skrull leader Talos (Ben Mendelson), with information about an uprising of Skrulls who are angry that Fury and Captain Marvel haven’t found them a new home as they had promised.

A new band of Skrulls, led by the extremist Skrull Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), seeks to infiltrate Earth and take over important positions of authority. Fury must find a way to counter this menace.

War Machine, commonly known as James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), has a significant role in the television series.

The daughter of Talos, G’iah (Emilia Clarke), has rebelled against her father after being radicalised by Gravik, but as she learns about Gravik’s secret ambitions, her loyalty is quickly put to the test.

A new addition is the high-ranking M16 agent named Sonya Falsworth (played by the wonderful Olivia Colman), who has a past with Fury and is probably related to James Montgomery Falsworth, a member of Steve Roger’s Howling Commandos in Captain America: The First Avenger.

While all of the performers do a fantastic job, the audience is left with the impression that not everyone is who they seem to be and that anyone could, at any time, actually be a Skrull, which adds a lot of tension to numerous situations.
