The much anticipated National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Study Centre, in Wase LG of Plateau State is set for commissioning.
The center which was facilitated by the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, His Excellency, RT Hon Ahmed Idris Ahmed Wase, would be commissioned on Friday, 24th of May, 2024.
Fully completed and equipped to serve as a centre for learning and excellence, the Wase Study Center would on the day of the commissioning be formally handed over to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) by Rt. Hon. Wase who attracted the center to his constituency as part of his constituency project.
The center would serve as an avenue to advance access to higher education to both the federal constituency, Plateau State and the nation.
Preparations for the hosting of the event are in top gear and Wase town is already agog in anticipation of the commissioning which promises to attract very important dignitaries to Wase.
In recognition of the role of the former Deputy Speaker towards making the facility a reality, the National Open University of Nigeria in a letter addressed to RT Hon Wase, and signed by its Registrar, Oladipo Ajayi, appreciated the former deputy speaker for his role in facilitating the building of the centre.
It said, “The Vice-Chancelor, following the completion of the construction work at the Study Centre, has directed that the Centre be commissioned and handed-over to the University on Friday, 24th May, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
“Without any gainsaying, your selfless dedication as the facilitator of the Centre is deeply appreciated.”
The institution while commending the former Deputy Speaker, solicited his support and collaboration for the commissioning of the centre which it described as a milestone achievement for the both the university and the Wase Community.
Rt. Hon. Wase is the immediate former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives and currently the chairman of the Federal Character Committee of the House.
Already top state and Federal Government functionaries, traditional rulers, captains of industry and the diplomatic community have indicated interest to join the Vice Chancellor, management and management of the University to be part of the historic event.
Chairman of the organizing committee, Hon Sa’ad Bello, has confirmed that invitations have been extended to key national and state leaders including the Hon Minister of Education, the Governor of Plateau state and National Assembly members, as well as former Governors, Deputy Governors, Ministers who are expected to grace the event.
The Wase Community Study Centre is the first of its kind in the entire Plateau South and Plateau Central Senatorial Districts which comprises 11 local governments out of the 17 in the state.
The centre will definitely inspire further learning, inculcate a reading culture among the people and expose the citizenry to the intricacies of research and in-depth study and analyses of the sociological dynamics of modern times as well as ease learning and scholarship.
