‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ has the highest opening day of any movie in 2023 so far at $51.7M.

The revenue surpasses both the $31.7 million Wednesday opening day for Super Mario Bros. and the $48.1 million opening day for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 from Disney/Marvel Studios.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘s opening weekend surpasses a number of other Spider-Man debuts, including the 2002 original Spider-Man ($39.4M), Spider-Man 2 ($40.4M), and Andrew Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($35.1M), and places third best overall behind Spider-Man: No Way Home ($121.9M) and Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 ($59.8M).

The first day of Across the Spider-Verse was also the third-highest for an animated movie, after Finding Dory ($54.7M) and Incredibles 2 ($71.2M).

Day one of the sequel is also the company’s best-ever for Sony Pictures Animation.
