According to the Jigawa State Police Command, its agents successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt and successfully freed the victim without incident.
This is stated in a statement released by DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the command’s public relations officer, a copy of which was provided to newsmen in Dutse on Monday.
According to information from a trustworthy source, on September 17, 2023 at around 20:40 hours, “hoodlums armed with dangerous weapons invaded Kwanar Garki, Babura Local Government Area, kidnapped one Isyaku Umar, 37, of Kofar Arewa Babura LGA, and shot one Ahmad Abdullahi, 30, of Babbar Ruga village in the armpit.”
According to him, a team of police officers led by DPO Babura Divisional Police Headquarters hurried to the scene of the crime as soon as they received the complaint and unharmed freed the victim who had been kidnapped.
He clarified that the injured person and the kidnapped victim were both taken urgently to the Babura General Hospital for care.
The statement said that the kidnapped victim had been reunited with his family after being treated and released from the hospital.
The captors shot Abdullahi, who has been taken to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical attention.
The Divisional Police Officer Ringim, along with a team of Policemen and the Vigilante Group, mounted a stop and search at Daushe village along Ringim Kanya Babba highway, he said, explaining that it was in response to a distress call from the Babura Division that suspected kidnappers were traveling towards the Ringim Area.
DSP Shiisu continued by saying that when the thugs saw the police, they abandoned their Vectra car and fled in different directions.
“One (1) AK 47 weapon, one magazine, fifteen live rounds of ammo, and an Android smartphone were discovered when searching the aforementioned Vectra with registration number NEN 20 NZ ANAMBRA STATE.
“Efforts to arrest the fleeing criminals are on top gear,” he insisted.
The Jigawa State Police Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Effiom Emmanuel Ekot, praised the police officers’ efforts for a job well done and gave them orders to maintain their composure so that the evading criminals would be apprehended and prosecuted.
