At a long-awaited press event on Monday, Netflix unveiled the four different films that are presently in production at the studio as part of its future feature-length animation slate for 2023.

It is obvious that the corporation still wants to compete head-to-head with Disney, Universal, and the other major companies in the animation industry, despite the ups and downs of the streaming business model.

Here is what Netflix’s original animated films will consist of including Adam Sandler project to the Chicken Run sequel to the canceled, then salvaged adaptation of ND Stevenson’s iconic graphic novel Nimona.

1. LEO (2023)

This coming-of-age animated musical comedy is about the final year of elementary school as seen through the eyes of a class pet, and it features performances by actor and comedian Adam Sandler (Hotel Transylvania, The Wedding Singer), who brings his trademark chuckles.

Leo (Adam Sandler), a jaded 74-year-old lizard, and Bill Burr’s turtle, his terrarium-mate, have spent decades being confined to the same Florida classroom. When he finds he only has a year to live, he intends to escape to experience life outside of his small town, but he ends up becoming entangled in the issues of his worried students, including an improbably cruel substitute teacher. It turns out to be the most unusual but fruitful bucket list ever.

The cast of LEO include; Adam Sandler, Bill Burr, Cecily Strong, Jason Alexander, Rob Schneider, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Jackie Sandler, Heidi Gardner, Nick Swardson, Nicholas Turturro, Robert Smigel, Jo Koy, Stephanie Hsu

2. NIMONA (2023)

Nimona, a mischievous teen who also happens to be a shape-shifting creature he’s promised to destroy, is the only person who can help a knight in a futuristic medieval world who is accused of a crime he didn’t commit prove his innocence.

Cast of Nimona include; Chloë Grace Moretz, Riz Ahmed, Eugene Lee Yang, Frances Conroy, Lorraine Toussaint, Beck Bennett, RuPaul Charles, Indya Moore, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman.

3. THE MONKEY KING (2023)

A charming Monkey and his magical fighting stick battle 100 demons, an oddball Dragon King, and Monkey’s greatest enemy of all: his own ego in the action-packed family comedy The Monkey King.

Along the way, he is confronted by a young village girl who questions his egocentricity and demonstrates to him how even the smallest pebble may have a significant impact on the globe.

Cast of The Monkey King; Jimmy O. Yang, Bowen Yang, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, Jo Koy, Ron Yuan, Hoon Lee, Stephanie Hsu, Andrew Pang, Andrew Kishino, Jodi Long, James Sie and BD Wong.

4. CHICKEN RUN: DAWN OF THE NUGGET (2023)

The eagerly awaited sequel to the beloved and highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time, Chicken Run, comes from the multi-Academy Award and BAFTA Award-winning Aardman (Creature Comforts, Wallace & Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep) and Academy Award and BAFTA-nominated director Sam Fell (ParaNorman and Flushed Away).

After achieving a life-saving escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has, at last, discovered her dream – a tranquil island haven for the entire flock, away from the perils of the outside world. Ginger’s happy ending appears to be complete when she and Rocky hatch a daughter they call Molly. However, the entire chicken species is now exposed to a new, horrific threat back on the mainland. This time, Ginger and her team are breaking in, even if it means jeopardizing their own hard-won freedom!

Cast includes; Thandiwe Newton, Zachary Levi, Bella Ramsey, Imelda Staunton, Lynn Ferguson, David Bradley, Jane Horrocks, Romesh Ranganathan, Daniel Mays, Josie Sedgwick-Davies, and Nick Mohammed.
