Ifeanyi Ararume has been reappointed as the non-executive Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a verdict issued today, April 18, the judge also ruled that all actions and resolutions of the NNPCL Board made from January 17, 2022, until the present were invalid and should be set aside.
Ararume had filed the lawsuit against President Buhari after he was removed as one of the NNPC Chief.
He asked the court to declare his removal as illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional and that it is a total breach of the CAMA law under which NNPCL was incorporated.
Aside asking the court to issue an order to return him to office, he also demanded the sum of N100 billion as compensation for damages he suffered all following his removal by President Buhari.
Ararume received 5 billion naira from the court as compensation for being wrongfully removed from his position as non-executive chairman of the NNPCL and having his term of office interrupted.
The judge additionally ruled that President Buhari violated the law when he fired Ararume for using his name to register NNPCL, adding that such a blatant act cannot be allowed to stand in the face of the law.
