At the box office, The Autobots, ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’ are back in full force.

In domestic previews on Thursday, “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” brought in $8.8 million. It’s getting ready to compete with “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which debuted at No. 1 last week, in its opening weekend.

This weekend, Paramount’s “Rise of the Beasts” hopes to earn $50 million to $60 million at the box office, but “Across the Spider-Verse,” which is aiming for $45 million to $55 million in its second excursion, could interfere with its plans.

Sony’s Spidey sequel had an unprecedented $120 million opening weekend last week.

Rise of the Beasts, the seventh installment in the venerable “Transformers” franchise, aims to make up for the previous film, the 2018 remake of “Bumblebee.”

On its way to a low-for-the-franchise $21.6 million opening, the Hailee Steinfeld-starring movie brought in $2.85 million on Thursday previews.

Before that, “Transformers: The Last Knight” from 2017 had a $44.68 million opening weekend and $8.1 million in previews.

The fact that “Rise of the Beasts” received more favourable previews is encouraging for its potential to change the franchise’s direction.

The cast of “Rise of the Beasts” is led by Dominique Fishback, who starred in Prime Video’s TV series “Swarm” earlier this year, and “Hamilton” and “In the Heights” actor Anthony Ramos.

The Maximals and Terrorcons, two illustrious Transformer clans with the ability to morph into robotic beasts, are introduced in the newest film.

In order to combat the wicked Terrorcons, led by Peter Dinklage’s Scourge, fan favourites Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen) and Bumblebee are assisted by newcomers Mirage (Pete Davidson), Optimus Primal (Ron Perlman), Airazor (Michelle Yeoh), Arcee (Liza Koshy), and more.
