Independence Day: Return to classrooms, President Buhari urges striking lecturers
This morning, to mark the 62nd anniversary of the nation’s Independence Day, President Muhammadu Buhari gave a speech that was televised nationwide.
President Buhari asked the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end its more than seven-month industrial strike and get back to work during his speech. Since February 14, 2022, ASUU has been on strike in protest of many problems, such as underpaid allowances and substandard welfare.
The president said in his speech “I am using this Independence Day celebration to reiterate my call for the striking Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to return to the classroom while assuring them to deal with their contending issues within the limit of the scarce resources,”.
The President added that he recognized the suffering Nigerians are through and reassured them that his government is doing everything it could to help.
