FG spent over N220bn on postponed census – NPC Chairman

The National Population Commission’s (NPC) Nasir Isa-Kwarra has provided an explanation of how the N224 billion allocated by the Federal Government for the 2023 housing and population census was used.

N800 billion had been set aside initially for the exercise, but that amount was reduced after the exercise was postponed.

Isa-Kwara mentioned in Abuja during a breakfast meeting with media executives that the N224 billion has been spent on preparations for the exercise which include printing of papers, and training of adhoc staff members, among many other miscellaneous.

Recall that in late April, following multiple consultations with stakeholders, President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) decided to postpone the census.

He stated that the exercise’s date will be decided by President-elect Bola Tinubu’s future administration.
