Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, Seun Kuti, has been detained in police custody for four more days by a Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatubosun, extended Kuti’s remand until May 22.
A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos ordered afrobeat musician Seun Kuti into custody for a further four days on Thursday.
He claims that the reason for the extension is to allow for more investigation into the case.
Charges against Mr. Kuti include assault on a police officer.
On May 13, he is accused of committing the crime on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos State.
The police charged him for slapping an inspector after driving recklessly on the bridge and purposefully obstructing a patrol car.
The chief magistrate ordered Mr. Kuti’s 48-hour detention when he was arraigned on Tuesday.
She, however, held that the defendant should be admitted to bail in the sum of one million Naira with two sureties in like sum, at the end of the 48-hour remand.
She said that one of the sureties must be a landlord within the jurisdiction of the court.
She ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the state director of public prosecutions for consultation before adjourning the case for mention on May 22.
