Carlton Neron Thomas popularly known as Carl Thomas is an American R&B singer. He was born on June 15, 1972 in Aurora, Illinois and enrolled into East Aurora High School. He started singing around Chicago and joined The Fourmula. But he ventured out and went to New York City, where he performed in bars on open-mic nights. Sean “Puffy” Combs noticed one of these performances and signed Thomas to work for Bad Boy Entertainment in 1997.

Prior to his passing, his brother worked as a corrections officer at the Illinois Youth Center in St. Charles. Thomas underwent surgery to have a benign tumor in his salivary gland removed in 2019.

Carl Thomas: Debut Album
His Debut Album, Emotional, was released on April 18, 2000. The album was certified platinum with over 1 million sales, thanks to this single and the album’s other singles, “Summer Rain” at No. 18. The 2000 movie version of Shaft, had this soundtrack included and the title track “Emotional” at No. 8 on the R&B charts. Let’s Talk About It, his second album, was released on March 23, 2004. Even though “She is” and “Let’s Talk About It” were released as singles, they did not do well on the charts. One contributing aspect was the lack of marketing brought on by the passing of Thomas’s brother Duranthony Evans, who was murdered in a drive-by on Halloween night on Aurora’s East Side. Thomas was heartbroken by this and decided to take a break from music and album promotion. Given how long it had been since Emotional, the album was eagerly anticipated, but it did not go down well with fans. Thomas appeared on the ninth track, “Can We Go,” of R&B artist Amerie’s second album Touch in 2005.
He appeared on the single “Dumpin” from the 2Pac album Pac’s Life from 2006 alongside Hussein Fatal and Papoose. Thomas received a Grammy Award nomination on December 7, 2006, alongside Chaka Khan, Yolanda Adams, and the late Gerald Levert for the song “Everyday (Family Reunion)” from Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion.
