Nollywood movie, “The Bride Price” is number one at the Nigerian Box Office.
With N13 million after only two weeks in theatres, the local movie is already in on top.
However, statistics from the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) reveals that ticket sales for the movie fell by 25% overall and 26% during the weekend.
Even though the movie is ahead of local and international competition like Honey Money and The Kujus Again, this is hardly encouraging for the picture.
The Bride Price, reportedly the first Igbo native film to obtain the broadest cinema release, is expected to compete fiercely with future Hollywood films like Little Mermaid and Fast and Furious.
The comedy-drama film follows Aloy, a spare parts trader with little formal education. When he is forced to pay through the nose for his wife, despite her father’s resistance, he cuts out his wife’s family from their lives.
Akinola Akano, Trinity Ugonabo, Juliana Olayode, Nkem Owoh, Ebele Okaro, Funny Bone, Beverly Oh, and Zubby Michael are among the cast members. Trinity Ugonabo is the producer, while Okey Oku is the director.
