One of the inmates who escaped during last year’s attack on the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has been apprehended by Nasarawa State Police Command.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, identified the escapee inmate as Salisu Buhari, a 24-year-old indigene of the state, in a statement made available to journalists in Lafia, the state capital, on Sunday.

According to Nansel, operatives also apprehended one Zubeiru Ali, who conspired with Buhari to steal motorcycles from residents of the state’s Nasarawa Local Government Area.

The police spokesman said, “On April 6, 2023, at about 10pm, police operatives attached to the Nasarawa Division, in a sting operation, arrested the duo of Zubairu Ali (27 years) and Salisu Buhari (24 years) for motorcycle theft in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are responsible for most motorcycle snatching and theft in Nasarawa Local Government Area and its environs.

“Upon interrogation, Salisu Buhari confessed to having escaped from Kuje Prison when the facility was attacked last year, linked up with his crony, and went into the criminal venture.”

While warning all criminal elements to leave the state without further delay, the PPRO added that the state Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia, for a thorough investigation.
