A Sabo-Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State rejected a police request to legally charge afrobeat musician Seun Kuti.
Mr Cyril Ejiofor who led a police legal team to court on Wednesday, May 24, hours after the singer was released from police custody, had applied to the court to allow the arraignment of the singer. He said that the application was to formally bring charges against Kuti.
Kuti’s lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), however, opposed the application on grounds of the police refusing to send the case file to Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice, as directed by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Olatubosun.
Chief magistrate Olatubosun highlighted that she requires the DPP’s advise before moving further with the case, as she adjourned it until July 3 for mention.
